Our Philosophy

Edgeworth Community Preschool has a simple philosophy

‘Connections create success for life’

Vision Statement

Our vision is to always prioritise children. By putting children first, we ensure that all children’s wellbeing needs are being met as this is crucial for laying the foundation for a child's future development and resilience.

We aim to equip the children in our care with skills for life - not just skills for school. Through responsive, meaningful, respectful, and genuine relationships, the children in our care, can and will reach their full potential.

We promote social competence to enable children to independently navigate their social world, to interact with peers and adults, to form friendships, and to understand the needs of others.

Philosophy

C= Children First

We develop and implement learning programs that are responsive to children’s ideas, interests, strengths, and abilities, and recognise the significance of what children learn through play. We actively seek the children’s voice in all aspects of our curriculum.

When we collaborate and connect with children, we establish respectful and caring relationships with the children and their families. This allows us to construct curriculum and learning experiences relevant to children in their context.

Our planned, play-based experiences provide children with opportunities to express their views and be genuinely listened to by caring, responsive educators.

O= Our vision

Our vision is for all children to reach their full potential. Every child has the right to dream and to grow at their own pace. They have the right to make mistakes and to be supported to develop new ways to try things. Our focus on social competency supports children to develop the ability to understand their environment, gauge the wants and needs of others (in conjunction with their own), and then adapt to those situations in an age-appropriate way – a way that healthily enhances their identity, and doesn’t stifle it.

N= Nature

Children are supported in becoming environmentally aware and gain the confidence and knowledge to pass this on to their families, becoming advocates for transformative change at many levels—our thinking, our ways of being, and our ways of acting to regenerate the earth.

Children need to nurture and develop their relationship with the earth and to Country in authentic and meaningful ways. Nature provides endless opportunities for discovery, creativity, problem-solving, and self-regulation. Interacting with nature is particularly potent in shaping both positive environmental attitudes and socially responsive behaviours.

N= NARBETHONG: a cheerful place

We aim to create a place where all children and their families feel safe, noticed, and celebrated for being their authentic selves. By creating a positive and supportive environment for learning, children feel safe to take risks, try new things, and master new skills.

When we treat children’s work and play with respect, and encourage children to reflect on their successes, we help support each child’s sense of worth. This consideration and importance we give to their work and play, can directly affect the child’s well-being and outlook on learning. We aim to always be Narbethong.

Children’s relationships shape the way they see the world and affect all areas of their development. Through relationships, children learn about their world. We encourage children to express themselves and develop higher emotional intelligence.

E= Educators

Our educators have been carefully chosen for their diverse passions, experience, skills, and qualifications. This diversity of educators supports our anti-bias approach to our curriculum.

The educators at Edgeworth Community Preschool are our biggest asset, and we have a culture of investing in high-quality professional development and growth of our educators and our leaders. This supports our educators and leaders to remain passionate and current in their work with young children.

C= Children’s voices

We actively seek and use the views and perspectives of children in decisions about their safety, well-being, and learning.

Every child’s voice is heard and prioritised. Children are actively supported to express their thoughts/ideas about our learning environment. Children are consistently consulted on information about what their interests are, what they like and dislike in an environment, and offer suggestions around their perceived goals of learning and development. Thinking from the child’s perspective, ensures our curriculum aligns with children’s needs and experiences. Valuing their preferences and respecting their right to choose.

T= Together

We openly acknowledge and embrace the families of children in our care, as we recognise that they are the child’s foremost significant teachers. We strongly believe that working in collaboration with families and showing respect and trust, helps provide the best outcomes for all children. We actively seek and utilise community involvement for the betterment of our service. Our continual strive for high quality means that the connections we have created, are authentic and focused on best practice. We embed Indigenous culture in everyday learning so that all children gain a deeper understanding about the wisdom, traditions, and practices of First Nations people, fostering respect and appreciation for cultural diversity.
